Throughout the years of playing World of Warcraft, I have come to find that the social aspect of the game is what I enjoy the most. Particularly guilds.. but it can be hard to find a good guild these days, from what I hear.
Many guilds just focus on one thing, like raid for example, and if you’re not in the main raid team then you’re basically useless and ignored. Some guilds even turn off guild chat to lower ranks!
Over the years I’ve been in many guilds, some were casual, some were hardcore. Some were hardcore wannabes… one guild I was in thought they were pretty great but actually sucked. They charged us weekly “dues” to raid, and the higher rank you were the more you had to pay (ie – you had to PAY for your core raider spot). This was back in the days of Wrath when money was scarce, not like now where you’re rolling in millions most likely. This very same guild kicked me one day when I was offline, to “see how I would react”, and when I reacted like “WTF!” the GM said “HAH I knew you were a bitch”. Really…? I will never forget that terrible experience, but at the same time I have some good memories too…
In the past I was a bit hotheaded and found it hard to keep a guild that I wouldn’t get into a fight with an officer and ragequit from. I’ve dappled here and there in making my own guilds too.. I had my own guild back in BC when I was a HUGE newbie, called Crimson Dawn. Many of my friends made fun of me cos we weren’t a very successful guild with raiding, due to the leader (me) being completely newbie, but we had so much fun aside from raiding. To me, that’s more important. Although I LOVE raiding, sometimes it hasn’t fit my lifestyle, like when I had babies. At one point I had a job that required me to work most raid nights. Eventually I moved servers and Crimson Dawn fell apart.
A super old screenshot of some members of Crimson Dawn.
I’ve server hopped quite a bit in my time, mainly due to just not being able to find a place that fit me right… I started off on US servers and being Australian, this required me to raid at ridiculously early hours. That was NOT suiting me at all. I was on Oceanic server Thaurissan for quite some time, but then tired of the PVP and ganking and I up and left in a fit of fury after one ganking session, and moved to Moon Guard to try out the RP world. But alas, it was an American server so it turned out to not suit again. When Blizzard moved the physical servers to Australia and offered free server xfers to Aussie servers, I took that leap and moved all of my characters to Saurfang where I’ve been for three years now, and I immediately started up the Life of Warcraft guild there.
When LoW first hit WoD together, we made a team to farm the Garn Nighthowl mount together. We got every person a wolf.
In those three years I’ve made so many friends, people I talk to on a daily basis, people I share everything with, people I laugh and cry with. A couple members have been in the guild since the week I started it, although they took long hiatuses in the middle there. One of my officers and now best online friends was one of those people. He raided with us back in Highmaul in the guild’s very fresh days, we kinda sucked back then. He ended up going MIA for an entire year but I left him in the guild and he eventually came back like “WHAT?! I’m still here?” and rejoined the raid team and has never looked back.
Here we are in Highmaul just after dropping Tectus for the first time. Some of the people here are still in the guild 🙂
And dropping bosses in Blackrock Foundry.
And killing jerks in Hellfire Citadel
Now we are a pretty successful raiding guild, I mean we’re not getting any server firsts but I don’t care about that. We’re 8/11 heroic Antorus which is alright in my eyes. The important thing to me is that we’re a tightknit family. We regularly chat, laugh, have a good time. We run mythics together outside of raid, we chat on our private guild facebook group, we share horribly inappropriate memes and gifs, and we have themed music nights on discord while we raid. It’s all about fun in LoW. In the past people have left the guild to find a guild that suits their time zone better, or because we couldn’t fit them into our raid team at the time or whatever other reason, but SO many members who’ve left eventually come back and they admit, they find it hard to find a guild like LoW.
Some end of Xpac fun.
I am proud, because although we’re not a top server raiding guild, we are a guild that people WANT to be in, nobody is excluded from, everybody is important, everybody gets a “hi how are you” and a “gratz”, everybody gets invited to our casual off night events.
Our only issue now is that we have lost a few of our raiders due to their work schedules or just going MIA randomly (possibly quit wow? who knows..), so currently we’re struggling to get 10 members to even get a heroic raid going. We have been in need of a dedicated regular healer for MONTHS now. Myself and the other healer, Cata, a holy priest, have been 2 healing Antorus and TOS for quite some time now. It’s doable but we have other DPS that want a raid spot and we can’t even bring them because we don’t have enough heals, and it’s also stressful when it comes to fights like heroic Varimathras which are extremely difficult on healers. Not just that, but I prefer to keep a raid size of 14-18, not 10-11.

If you’re looking for a great home on Saurfang, just to hang out, mess around, have a laugh, or even to join our raid team, please don’t hesitate to hit us up. You can message the Life of Warcraft page on facebook, or add me on Bnet at Justyce#1508, or just jump in game on Saurfang Horde side and message Faerisong (or anyone online really) or send me in game mail. We’d love to have you join whether you want to join the raid team or not, everyone is welcome!
